10 Years Worth the Wait
A decade ago, Iron Man came out in the same summer as the Dark Knight. Warner Bros. was king of the superhero genre with the success of the Dark Knight and Marvel Studios were gaining their footing. Iron Man teased the Avengers eventually coming together in a post credits scene. Four years later, the Avengers came 1.5 billion dollar hit and out did the Dark Knight Rises at the box office which has led to Marvel Studios becoming King of the Box Office. The Avengers teased the unknown villain Thanos at the end of the movie. Comic book fans knew who Thanos was but general audiences were left scratching their heads about who the purple guy was. It has taken Marvel Studios six years to properly introduce Thanos to the public. A great group of directors have introduced Infinity Stones, made successful character driven movies like Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther, and the Russo Brothers along with the writing team of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have split the Avengers up. Every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is like a new book that has built up the story and hype to Avengers: Infinity War. It has taken 6 years for Thanos to finally become the villain in the movie. Avengers: Infinity War will help the public understand waiting 6 years for Thanos was worth it.
There’s a few negatives about Avengers: Infinity War and the massive one is the cliffhanger at the end of the movie. The cliffhanger feels like Harry Potter and the Death Hallows: Part 1 because the overall story feels incomplete. Audiences know that Avengers 4 will pick up where Infinity War left off. The film ends leaving you excited but it is a long year until seeing the final part. The only other negative is a few characters get a short of the end the stick in terms of screen time.
Thanos portrayed by Josh Brolin is Infinity War’s best attribute. Brolin does not only make Thanos a devastating powerful villain but adds a lot of human emotion to the character. Thanos is a titan and therefore he is super powerful and a giant compared to the human characters. His plan is very understandable and the sacrifices that he will make to obtain it surprising. He has incredible action sequences with other major MCU characters which will please a lot of people.
The visual effects, the sound effects, action sequences, the editing, and the direction is phenomenal. It makes the movie go by fast despite being 2 and 1/2 hours. The other phenomenal part of the movie is the interaction between the heroes. Several heroes meet for the first time and the banter between them is outstanding. Despite the banter, they still work together as a team quite well and help recreate iconic comic book moments and relationships with characters coming together. Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man screen a fair amount of screen time together which they do frequently in the comic books. Thor, Rocket, and Groot form a special relationship with each other in the movie too. The story direction, action sequences, writing, and editing allow these characters to come together and form a special bond. The audiences will leave the theater wanting to see these characters interact with each other more.
Overall, Avengers: Infinity War is a spectacular film with a lot of emotion, hilarious moments of dialogue, and visually a masterpiece. It will leave feeling incomplete because the cliffhanger will the public audience have to wait a year to see the whole story completed which is a negative. The good news a year will go by fast, and Avengers 4 will be a massive success. Avengers: Infinity War gets a 4.5 out 5.
