Jurassic World is a direct sequel to Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park was directed by Steven Spielberg, based off the book by Michael Crichton, and was released in 1993. It scared the audiences because the special effects and sounds were amazing. Jurassic World takes the franchise into a whole new direction. The events of Jurassic Park are a distant memory and people visit Jurassic World, a dinosaur type resort theme park, feeling safe and secure. The Mosasaur is probably the biggest attraction other than the T-Rex at Jurassic World. InGen, the original corporation by John Hammond, is no longer the owner of the park but they still lurk around. Simon Masrani, head of a giant corporation, owns the park and Claire Dearing is the park’s CEO. Jurassic World is a monster movie so don’t expect a suspenseful tale like Jurassic Park.
The Mosasaur from Jurassic World
Jurassic World opens with Gray and Zach Mitchell are visiting their Aunt Claire who runs Jurassic World along with Simon Masrani. Masrani and his board of directors are always looking for new attractions. They instruct Dr. Henry Wu, the original geneticist from Jurassic Park, to create a new terrifying genetically modified dinosaur. Dr Wu creates the Indominus Rex. Owen Grady and his partner Barry are researching and working with Velociraptors (Echo, Charlie, Delta, and Blue). Owen has trained the Raptors to respond to his commands using a clicker and his hand motions. His financial backer for his experiments in behavior modification is InGen, and the program is oversaw by Vic Hoskins. Claire contacts Owen about examining the Indominus Rex Paddock for weaknesses in its security. They don’t see the creature in its paddock and assumes it scale the wall to escape. Owen goes into the Indominus Paddock with a few park employees and discovers the Indominus has the ability to mask her body heat. She chases after Owen and the other park employees and escapes her paddock. She causes the operating staff of Jurassic World to go into panic mode and initiates a plan to recapture her.

Jurassic World is a worthy sequel to Jurassic Park. The Dinosaur elements of the movie are strong. The Raptor training scenes are amazing. The Mosasaur is very terrifying itself. The new Indominus Rex has abilities that are discovered throughout the movie. She is a stone cold killer. Her scenes would have been more terrifying if they didn’t show a majority of them in the trailers. She is very intelligent and is allusion to the current problem in our society. Jurassic Park was a symbolic film because it showed the greed and corruption that runs within humanity. The Indominus Rex and Jurassic World itself is an extension of that greed and corruption. The characters even state that dinosaurs do not thrill people as they once did. They have to build a bigger, better, and more aggressive dinosaurs to make the public come back to see them. Jurassic World could be seen as allusion to Hollywood. Hollywood itself is always trying to make epic battles larger in scale to audiences. The film features plenty of dinosaur action with a killer ending that theater will applaud for.

The cast of Jurassic World isn’t nearly as good as the first movie. The acting in the film is pretty good. Ty Simpkins gives the best acting performance of the bunch. The cast and their qualities are allusions to contemporary society itself. Owen is the pragmatist who understands that these are animals and that humans can never be in control of them. Claire is all about the money and getting more corporate sponsors to represent the park’s attractions. Zach lives in his cocoon like most teens do today. Gray is the kid that the world hasn’t corrupted yet and thinks these dinosaurs are cool and imaginative. Hoskins and Dr. Henry Wu are the corruption and greed that runs deep in humanity. Hoskins is militaristic, and Wu is the mad scientist who created the monster dinosaur in the lab. Masrani is the owner that runs the corporation but has no knowledge of itself inner workings. These characters symbolically represent humanity and help drive the message of the first Jurassic Park movie. Jurassic World has some problems.
The movie isn’t as suspenseful as the first Jurassic Park. The dinosaur scenes are shown in bits and pieces in the first trailer. Spielberg, director of the first Jurassic Park, is a talented director and knows how to film scenes that are suspenseful. He is also a great storyteller. Trevorrow did a great job at directing but the movie wasn’t suspenseful and scary as Jurassic Park. Trevorrow did make an entertaining movie and did a good job. Jurassic World doesn’t have the subtle comedic lines like in the first movie. I would have loved a line about the Indominus Rex and a funny quip like “you think that they have that on the tour.” The clip above shows the sarcastic humor that the character attempt to have but unsuccessfully.
Overall, Jurassic World is a entertaining monster movie although it lacks the magical frightening suspense captured in the first film. The characters are allusions to the real world and it is one of the strongest points of the film. The Indominus Rex is a complete psycho killer. The dinosaur scenes are amazing. The film gets 3.5 out 5.
